The Scott Vectra Full Face Goggle Mask seems to be the best one to get for airsoft and paintball. If you look at its photo below, you'll see that there are large holes to vent heat directly from your nose and mouth.
But the real question for us is whether the vent holes are bigger than the 6mm airsoft BB's that's going to be shooting at us. From the online photos, it's not clear. Even so, the sales page shows that it's a face mask for airsoft. And we just couldn't pass up the awesome ventilation.
After the face mask arrived in the mail, we immediately put it to the test with our 6mm BB's. As you can see from the photo below, all of the largest holes are too small for the 6mm BB's to go through.
The face mask is made entirely out of plastic. Foam surrounds the goggles, preventing airsoft BB's and paintball from entering. The visor can be attached or detached at will. The face mask covers the ears (see photo below), providing protection. The clear goggle can be removed and replaced. The wide elastic band on the back is adjustable. The visor on top can be removed.
I used this mask at an indoor airsoft field for an entire night. It never fogged up. The foam surrounds got wet from the sweat and never dried during that night. The face mask is quite protective and very easy to breath through. The bottom of the facemask extends below the chin, providing very good neck protection. I was very happy with the mask.
You can actually disassemble the facemask into three pieces (see photo below): the sun visor, the goggle, and the lower mask.
That means you can use the goggle without the face mask nor the sun visor. Or you can separate them to paint them with desert or woodland camouflage.
The transparent goggle visor is also removable. There are several retaining clips that keeps the plastic visor from falling off the goggle. The photo shows those retaining clips. You can use a pair of pliers to remove these clips.
Airsoft and paintball face masks are notorious for preventing the player from being able to aim through the iron sights, scopes, and holographic sights. And that's the same for this Scott Vectra face mask. It's simply too big. So when you rest the face mask on the shoulder stock of the gun, you can't see through the sight.
There are several solutions: 1) cut out the cheek area on the mask, so you can rest your cheek on the shoulder stock; 2) use a sight with a riser; 3) tilt your head 90 degrees so that the goggle rest on the stock; 4) use a gun that doesn't have a shoulder stock. They are not perfect solutions. But it's the necessary sacrifice to use a face mask.
The face mask came with a part that made us scratch our head. We couldn't figure out what it is. The unidentified part is shown in the photo below.
