In scenario airsoft/paintball, you are always looking for a tactical advantage. That comes through team training, strategy, and technology. A tactical flashlight has its uses in the technology department.
So when I came across the Enercell LED Flashlight on clearance at the local Radio Shack, I picked up two of them. I hoped they will be useful either mounted on an airsoft gun, a paintball marker, or serve as a standalone distraction device.
Although it isn't marketed as a tactical flashlight, with its brightness and its metal external shell, it can very well be one. In this article, we will examine the Enercell LED Flashlight for these roles.
The Enercell LED Flashlight comes in a green, dull-looking package (see below). Maybe that's why it's not selling. The plastic packaging is actually rather high quality. It is reusable, unlike many that you have to cut.
Once you remove the Enercell LED Flashlight, you'll have that it has a nice aluminum metal finish like many tactical flashlights on the market. The design and workmanship is very pleasing as shown in the photo below. The flashlight is water-resistant.
The Enercell LED Flashlight has a single LED for its bulb (see photo below). The specification claims the LED will last up to 50000 hours. It will provide 84-lumen light output and has 242 feet of beam distance.
Like many other tactical flashlight, the Enercell LED Flashlight has a power button on the back of the tube (see photo below). It can be unscrewed to reveal the battery compartment.
After unscrewing the power button, a plastic battery container that fits three AAA batteries slides out (see photo below). The batteries are not included, so you will have to buy them separately. A fresh set of batteries provides up to 7.5 hours of continuous operation.
If you are wondering whether the Enercell LED Flashlight really produces 84 lumen, take a look at the photo below. The CenterPoint Tactical Flashlight (80 - 90 lumen) is on the left, while the Enercell LED Flashlight is on the right. The brightness is about the same.

The photo below shows the diameter of the flashlight tube. It's about 26 mm to 27 mm in diameter. It will not fit in 1" scope ring. However, a 30mm scope ring will probably work, but require some kind of spacer to keep it in place. Because it does not easily fit a 1" scope ring, it is unsuitable as a tactical flashlight for your firearm. However, it can be used as a distraction device off your gun.
