The Well R-4 MP7 is an extremely good airsoft replica of the real Heckler & Koch MP7. The following is a photo of the real H&K MP7A1 on display at the Germany's IdZ program. You can use this photo to compare to the Well R-4 1:1 MP7 replica photos in this article. Click on the photo below to see a full-size image.

The Well R-4 comes in a well designed package. The box looks great (see photo below).
Inside the box, you will see everything inserted tightly into the styrofoam (see photo below). Content includes the MP7 airsoft gun, a proprietary battery, battery charger, and a bag of BB's, and the instruction manual.
Everything comes in excellent quality. But if you look carefully, you'll notice that the side rail is missing. The product box, manual, and web marketing all shows side rails on the airsoft MP7. It seems that the manufacturing plant forgotten to install the two rails on this airsoft gun, because the gun has came well packaged in original shrink wrap (not a return). Or the manufacturer decided to reduce cost by leaving them out. But I don't have the patience to ship it back and try another one; the MP7 works well enough without them. Instead, I will add some Picatinny rails myself.
The H&K MP7 is a very small full-automatic sub-machine gun. The Well R-4 electronic airsoft version is no exception. But with the shoulder stock and the foregrip extended (see photo below), it becomes a sturdy rifle that matches a bullpup. The foregrip is not removable, just like the real MP7. All of the other airsoft MP7 replicas on the market have a removable foregrip attached to a bottom rail.
The battery bay is just behind the front muzzle (see photo below). The Well R-4 has a small proprietary battery, because the gun is so small, there is hardly any space for the battery. Luckily, this battery is the same battery pack used in many airsoft small arms--including the Vz. 61 Scorpion SMG and other airsoft electronic pistols (AEP). So you still have some battery interchangeability if you own multiple SMG/AEP.
Noticed that the mode switch is ambidextrous. The photo below shows the safety being at the top position, semi-auto is in the middle position, and the full-auto is in the bottom position.
The charging handle opens the shell ejection port just above the mode switch, on the right side of the gun. Once the shell ejection port is opened, you can see and adjust the hop-up unit. The shell ejection port is quite narrow. So I have difficulty getting my finger into it to adjust the hop-up. Instead, I have to use a hex wrench to make my adjustments.
In addition to the mode switch, the trigger has another safety switch (see photo below). When you pull the trigger, you will automatically depress the safety switch. Without depressing this switch you cannot pull the trigger. It is not clear to me why this extra switch is necessary.
The magazine release is right where the trigger guard meet the handgrip. Use your thumb to push down on it and the magazine slides right out. The magazine release is also on both side of the gun for ambidextrous operation.
Although AirSplat claims that this gun comes with a 50-round magazine, it actually only comes with a 20-round real-capacity magazine (see photo below) to simulate the real firearm. A 50-round mid-cap version and an 150-round high-cap version are also available, but not included.
Much like other mid-capacity magazines, the included MP7 magazine has a BB release switch (see photo below).
The magazine that came with the SMG works quite reliably. I've also gotten some aftermarket MP7 magazines. Some don't stay locked into the gun. But I managed to determine an easy modification for them to work reliably. I will show you the mod shortly.
AirSplat claims that the Well R-4 MP7 shoots at 260 FPS with 0.2g BB. In our test, we get an average of 215 FPS with 0.2g BB. There is definitely room for improvement. Maybe AirSplat has a perfect sample with no air leaks and the one we got has plenty of air leaks.
Airsoft3D makes lightweight Picatinny rails. They are made out of nylon polymer, which is similar to Magpul polymer rails used on real guns. The Airsoft3D 11-slots Picatinny rail is sized just right for the MP7. The original MP7 Picatinny rail has only 7-slots. So the 11-slots rail is a good upgrade. And keeping the weight down on the front of the MP7 provides a better balance.
Airsoft3D rails are available in assorted colors. My MP7 is already painted camouflage. I have decided to get a black rail and a green rail to see how they look on the MP7. I can always paint the rails like I painted the SMG. The following photo shows the rails next to the camouflaged MP7.
The following photo shows the black rail on the MP7. As you can see the pre-drilled slots on the 11-slots rail align to the MP7 bolt holes without any modification.
