A month ago, I gotn a Matrix leg holster from Evike. It was a generic brand, because I saw this same holster on Amazon being sold as the "UTG Elite Tactical Right Handed Leg Holster". I took this pistol holster to a tactical training session along with the WE F226 airsoft pistol that I got the holster for. Throughout the training session, I realized how difficult it is to secure and unsecure the pistol. Pretty soon, I stopped securing it altogether. Even than, it was difficult to insert the pistol, because the straps kept getting in the way (see photo below). Personally, I liked this leg holster. But some work had to be done to make it usable.
It's obvious from the photo above that all the straps have to be re-arranged. First, and easiest change is the drop leg strap. The extra length is cumbersome. The simplest way is to tuck the extra length back into the adjustment buckle (see photo below). Now it is cleanly out of the way.
That leaves the other two straps--the gun securing straps. The female buckle strap can unbuttoned pretty easily (see photo below).
That leaves only one strap to get in the way as shown in the photo above. We can simply cut off that strap. But in this case, I want to avoid destructive re-arrangement. So we remove the male buckle from the strap (see photo below).
Now, we simply tuck the extra strap into the holster (see photo below). In this manner, there is no damage done to the holster. And the strap no longer get in the way of the pistol.
Now the pistol fits nicely in the holster and nothing gets in its way as it goes in and out of the holster. The photo below shows the WE F226 (Sig Sauer P226) airsoft pistol in the leg holster.
But we still need to figure out a way to secure the pistol while holstered and unsecure the pistol in action. That is where the parts shown in the photo below comes into play. The only extra part is the rubber band. Otherwise, we are reusing the male buckle and the female buckle strap with buttons.
First, we take the rubber band and tie it to the male buckle (see photo below).
Next, we tie the male buckle and rubber band around the drop strap (see photo below). The we re-button the female buckle strap onto the holster.
After connecting the two buckles as shown in the photo below, the airsoft pistol is now secure in the holster. It won't drop out accidentally in action.
To unsecure the pistol, you rotate the rubber band strap back, past the pistol grip, as shown in the photo below. The rotational travel is a little bit longer than most manufacturer made releases, but it works.
The photo below shows how the rubber band strap stays in place after being rotated out of the way.
Not sure if the rubber band will withstand the action. So I'm taking a few extra rubber bands with me to the airsoft field. It'll be an inexpensive and easy replacement if it does break.
