I've been wanting a CO2 pistol pistol for indoor CQB. I just don't feel it is healthy to breath green gas or propane continuously. Outdoor, where it is vented, it may not be too bad. But indoor is just a little too risky for comfort. Plus, I already have to smell everyone else's gas blowback (GBB) pistol and rifle. I really don't want to increase my exposure.
Looking for something inexpensive, KWC Sig Sauer SP2022 CO2 Gas Pistol seems to fit the bill. For $30, you get a plastic CO2 pistol. But the real steel version is not made out of steel either. It is made out of polymer (plastic) as well. Except for $30, KWC Sig Sauer SP2022 CO2 Gas Pistol is non-blowback.
In this article, we will review this KWC Sig Sauer SP2022 CO2 Gas Pistol.
The KWC Sig Sauer SP2022 CO2 Gas Pistol. The packaging markets it as the Sig Sauer SP2022 (see photo below). But if you look closely you'll see that it is distributed by Cybergun and Swiss Arms. KWC does not show up anywhere on the packaging. Instead, KWC is stamped on the side of the gun.
Even though the packaging is non-reusable transparent plastic, it's actually quite cool because you can poke your fingers through the packaging, hold it like a pistol, and pull the trigger (see photo below). I have never seen airsoft packaging like that before. It's really fun to play with even without taking the pistol out of the packaging.
The content is as you'd expect for an airsoft pistol. There is the Sig Sauer SP2022 airsoft pistol, the CO2 magazine, and a zip lock bag (see photo below). The zip lock bag contains a bag of yellow BB's, a 6mm hex wrench, and instruction sheet.
The KWC Sig Sauer SP2022 is a replica of the real Sig Sauer SP2022 firearm. It is made out of plastic, similar to the real firearm. However, the slide and hammer does not work like the real firearm. In addition, there is an orange tip that is required for all airsoft guns, as required by law.
Like the real steel version, there is a Picatinny weaver real on the front bottom portion, in front of thetrigger guard, of the pistol.
The magazine release is the triangle button, shown in the photo below, behind the trigger.
The real Sig Sauer SP2022 firearm does not have a safety switch. Instead, it has a decocker to uncock the hammer. This airsoft version of the Sig Sauer SP2022 does not have a functional hammer. However, the manufacturer have changed the SP2022 decocker to become the safety switch. The following photo shows the safety switch in the off position. The photo above shows the safety switch in the on position.
While the safety switch is on, you can still pull the trigger. However, nothing happens when you do.
The KWC Sig Sauer SP2022 comes with a CO2 magazine. It is made out of plastic, like the pistol. The packaging and instruction claims it holds 16 rounds of BB's, but we have found that it actually holds 16 BB's. The real steel magazine holds either 12 rounds or 15 rounds. The airsoft version is more than sufficient to replicate the real steel version. All 16 BB's will fire with no loss.
To load the CO2 cartridge, you use the included 6mm hex wrench to unscrew the cap at the bottom of the magazine.
The photo below shows the cap removed from the magazine.
Much like all airsoft gas magazines, there is a button valve at the back of the magazine to discharge the CO2. You can push this button to let out the gas. But this button is normally used by the airsoft pistol to fire BB's.
The KWC Sig Sauer SP2022 CO2 magazine came with quite a huge leak. At first, I didn't know it was a leak. I had thought I didn't tighten it enough. I kept tightening it until the magazine cap let go, leaking the entire CO2 canister. I wasted two CO2 canisters this way.
To get rid of the leak, I unscrewed the valve inside the magazine (see photo below). To unscrew, it you have to use a flat-head screwdriver to turn it clockwise (reverse direction).
The photo below shows the red o-ring on the removed valve. I have oiled it with silicon oil. Then I put it back.
But the gas still leaks. After wasting another CO2 cartridge, I have tried Teflon tape (see photo below). One layer is not enough. Two layers seems to work decently. However, three layers will probably work even better.
The packaging claims that is as a BAX hop-up system. However, it is not adjustable. The gun seems to shoot decently in the 20 to 30 feet range. However, at 50 feet, the BB drop is quite visible.
