The Echo1 Red Star IGOR (see "Related Links" below) is our favorite airsoft VSS Vintorez. After taking it out to the field last week, we really want to use it all the time. The problem... There is no mid-cap magazines for it. The solution... Airsoft3D VSS to MP3 Magazine Adapter.
The Airsoft3D VSS to MP3 Magazine Adapter is a 3D printed part that allows you to use MP7 AEG magazines in the Echo1 Red Star IGOR. This is the third time we've ordered a 3D airsoft part from Airsoft3D. In the past, the item has always met our expectation. So we have high expectation that this adapter will be perfect for our needs. In this article, we will review this magazine adapter.
The ordering page for the "VSS to MP7 Magazine Adapter" claims that it is compatible with the following VSS Vintorez airsoft electronic guns (AEG):
We have the Echo1 Red Star IGOR AEG, therefore, we tested the Airsoft3D VSS to MP7 Magazine Adapter with this AEG. You can see the magazine adapter installed into the AEG in the photo below.

We have the first two MP7 magazines on that list. So we tested the magazine adapter with those two magazines. The following photo shows the MP7 magazine inserted into the magazine adapter. These photos are for illustration only. You should not insert the MP7 magazine into the magazine adapter without installing the magazine adapter into the gun first, because if there are BB's in the MP7 magazine, they will shoot out.
The following photo is a top view of the magazine adapter with the MP7 magazine installed.
Insertion of the magazine involves pushing the release latch forward with the MP7 magazine, then pushing the MP7 magazine straight up. Once we have gotten the hang of it, it's pretty easy to do.
We ordered the white plastic version of the "VSS to MP7 Magazine Adapter" (see photo below). We also ordered it with a raw, unpolished surface. The idea is that we will paint it ourselves to match our Echo1 Red Star IGOR. You can order this mount adapter in different colors with different material.
The VSS to MP7 Magazine Adapter is extremely strong and rigid. The magazine release latch is slightly flexible and bendable for the purpose of retaining the MP7 magazine.
The raw white plastic texture feels like the same texture on a sugar cube, except it is extremely hard and doesn't crumble like a sugar cube. We have used our fingernails on it, it acts very similarly to plastic.
Installation is a piece of case. It inserts into the Echo1 Red Star IGOR pretty much in the same way as the high-capacity magazine. Once it is installed, you can swap MP7 AEG magazines in and out. The photo below shows how the adapter converts the VSS Vintorez mag well to the MP7 AEG mag well.
The following photo shows the adapter inserted into the magazine well from the side. We purposely left the adapter white to shoot these photographs so that you can see the part distinctively from the rest of the airsoft gun.
We wanted to paint the adapter black to match our Echo1 Red Star IGOR. We had some flat black paint. Having experience painting the other white, raw plastic items that we ordered from Airsoft3D before, we knew it will work out just fine. Photo below shows the adapter painted black.
Once the adapter is painted black, you can hardly tell that it's installed into the Echo1 Red Star IGOR AEG (see photo below).
The following photo shows the MP7 magazine in the VSS from a further distance.
The magazine adapter works great. There is no mis-feeds, nor BB jams. While shooting, it feels no different from a normal VSS Vintorez magazine in the gun. The low-profile of the MP7 magazine is perfect for this sniper rifle, because it doesn't get in the way of the bipod (see photo below).
When you reload MP7 magazines, there are a few more BB's that escape than with normal magazines, because the adapter adds more distance between the hop-up unit and the MP7 magazine. But that's pretty typical of any magazine adapter.
Reloading is quite natural and intuitive. You stick your finger in between the latch and the magazine. Then you pull the magazine straight down. That's pretty typical of a magazine removal and doesn't require you to play twister with your hand.
Once the spent magazine is removed, you insert the fresh magazine by pushing it forward on the latch. Then push the MP7 magazine straight up into the magazine well until the latch clicks.
