That is AirSplat's description for the AS Tactical CO2 Filling Tank and Barometer when I searched for "CO2" on its web site. The description sounds pretty awesome, so I bought it.
That was before I knew anything about gas blowback guns (GBB). But I wanted in on the AirSplat "$1 GBB Pistol Deal". I needed an airsoft pistol. I needed to learn about GBB airsoft guns. And a full metal WE F226 GBB for a buck sounded like a great deal.
What I learned is that you should not use this device to fill a green gas magazine using CO2 cartridges. AirSplat is marketing this product incorrectly. The result could be dangerous. This experience is covered in "What Happens When You Fill a Green Gas Magazine with CO2". For now, let's get on with the review of this product.
The AS Tactical CO2 Filling Tank and Barometer comes in a transparent plastic bag that could hardly fit it. I have thrown the bag away, because it is rather useless for its purpose.
On the other hand, AS Tactical CO2 Filling Tank and Barometer is maded out of polished metal and is quite sturdy. There is barometer on the adapter, which measures up to 1200 psi (see photo above). The barometer shows the pressure in the CO2 canister. There is no regulator on this device.
The photo above shows the AS Tactical CO2 Filling Tank and Barometer fully disassembled. I could not take the gas adapter, in the front off, the barometer adapter. There is enough room in this device to fit a CO2 canister; that is what it is made fot. Note the round grove in the bottom cap? It is curved for the curved end on a CO2 canister. The design seems rather robust.
I bought some Crosman CO2 canisters (15-pack) at K-Mart to try out the AS Tactical CO2 Filling Tank and Barometer with the WE F226 GBB pistol. Crosman markets them under the "Powerlet" name (see photo below).
The following photo shows what a Crosman CO2 cartridge looks like. All CO2 cartridges looks like that, except other brands will not have the Crosman name and may not have the WARNING label.
I screwed the bottom end-cap onto the black tube. Next I inserted the CO2 canister into the black tube. Then I screwed the top adapter onto the black tube, puncturing the CO2 canister. The barometer immediately jumped up to 900 PSI (see photo below).
I have used it to fill the WE F226 GBB magazine twice, which was not a good idea (see earlier link). By the time I have done that, the barometer now sits at 800 PSI. I have placed it on my shelf with the CO2 canister still in it. It's been a week and the pressure is still holding at 800 PSI. The air seal is pretty darn good.
I found out later that this device is used for filling CO2 40m airsoft grenade shells. Much like green gas magazines, you should not use this device to fill green gas grenade shells. It could be hazardous. You'll need to get CO2 grenade shells.
In addition, you can use it with airsoft shotgun shells. It works great with the Goblin airsoft shotshells, which are designed to handle CO2.
