The Saranac Rip II Gloves are made for exercise, targeting fitness, cycling, cardio, and weight training. However, in this article, we have used them for paintball and airsoft.
The back of the glove is padded with an extra layer of felt (see photo below). It's perfect to armor against paintball and airsoft hits. A velcro strap around the wrist help you keep the gloves on your hands.
The inner glove is GEL padded from the palm to the fingers (see photo below). And is once again, perfect protection to paintball and airsoft hits. We choose this pair of gloves, because they do not cover the finger tips. We feel the exposed fingers on the trigger can give us an extra edge.
So how did this pair of gloves fair on the real battlefield? First, we took them to SC Village in Corona, California to try them in paintball battle. They worked extremely well with the rental paintball gun. The grip on the gun felt solid. Finger on the trigger was perfect. We forgot we were wearing gloves during the battles.
Two weeks later, we took the same pair of gloves and showed up at Insight Interactive in Rancho Cucamonga, California to play some close-quarter airsoft battles. We rented Echo 1 SG Task Force Black 1 MP5 at Insight Interactive. Once again, the gloves felt wonderful with the rental gun. We forgot that we were wearing them, until I got hit in the exposed fingers. They stung and hurt.
If you are fine with the pain, then these gloves are great. Otherwise, stick to full finger gloves. See our Valken Tactical Gloves (aka Matrix Terminator CQB Combat Tactical Full Finger Gloves) review.
