In scenario airsoft/paintball, you are always looking for a tactical advantage. That comes through team training, strategy, and technology. A tactical flashlight has its uses in the technology department. Tactical flashlights aren't cheap.
So when I came across the Ozark Trail 200 Lumens Aluminum Flashlight at Walmart for $15, I picked one up. I hoped they will be useful either mounted on an airsoft gun, a paintball marker, or serve as a standalone distraction device.
Although it isn't marketed as a tactical flashlight, with its brightness and its metal external shell, it can very well be one. In this article, we will examine the Ozark Trail 200 Lumens Aluminum Flashlight for these roles.
The Ozark Trail 200 Lumens Aluminum Flashlight comes in a cardboard package (see below). The packaging is typical of many consumer items at Wal-mart. The two AA batteries are exposed in transparent plastic, so you can easily see that it comes with batteries.
Once you remove the flashlight from its package, you'll have that it has a nice aluminum metal finish like many tactical flashlights on the market. The workmanship is very good. But the ribbed design is kind of strange.
The Ozark Trail 200 Lumens Aluminum Flashlight has a single LED for its bulb (see photo below). As its name suggests, it provides 200 lumen of light intensity.
Like many other tactical flashlight, the Ozark Trail 200 Lumens Aluminum Flashlight has a power button on the back of the tube (see photo below). It can be unscrewed to reveal the battery compartment, which fits two AA batteries.
The Ozark Trail Aluminum Flashlight tube has a diameter that is roughly 25mm. It has six lips that makes it exactly 25.4mm, which is one inch. The flashlight fits in an 1" scope ring perfectly. Therefore, you can use the scope ring to mount the flashlight to your firearm and use it as a tactical flashlight. However, the Ozark Trail 200 Lumens Aluminum Flashlight does not come with a remote switch, so the utility is somewhat limited.
The following photos shows the light intensity of three different flashlights. The flashlight on the left is a generic 9 LED flashlight from a local 99c Store. It produces somewhere between 3 to 15 lumen. The flashlight in the middle is the CenterPoint Tactical Flashlight that produces 80 to 90 lumen with one LED. The flashlight on the right is the Ozark Trail Flashlight that produces 200 lumen with one LED. From this photo, we have a decent confidence that the Ozark Trail does produce the light intensity it specified.
