We have covered Science Fiction Airsoft Guns and Airsoft Guns that Look Futuristic. It is time to round out your load out with some fantasy equipment. Afterall, wouldn't it be fun if you take out a paramilitary fast team with awesome spec ops tactics while cosplaying steampunk raiders? There could be a lot more to airsoft than just live action role-playing (LARP) SWAT, military, terrorists, etc. Zombies are a popular choice in airsoft now, but it doesn't have to be the only alternative choice.
In this article, we are going to round out some cool gear that are fantasy-like, futuristic-like, or just oddball. Maybe they are even functional for airsoft! All these equipment are available off-the-shelf at your local or online stores.
It's not easy to find futuristic body armors for airsoft. But if you look into motorcycle and paintball armors, you can find quite a few (see examples below). The first photo is a full body armor for motorcycles and ATV's. With the right science fiction helmet, it can makes you look like a soldier from out of this world.
Use leg armors, shin guards, and elbow pads to round out the futuristic loadout. Looking for some futuristic airsoft gloves? The widely popular Valken V-TAC Airsoft Gloves (fourth photo) looks very science fiction-like with the right outfit. It's also being sold under the Matrix Terminator brand on Evike.
How about wearing a vest from a major blockbuster movie? The TMC Cosplay Transformer 3 Tactical Vest is modeled after the vest in the "Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon" movie. In the U.S., it's available from Evike under the name, "Matrix TF3 High Speed Body Armor". It is available in black or tan.

Axes are just popular, because there is a huge following in the medieval fantasy genre and the zombie survival genre. Even if all the World of Warcraft players and all the Walking Dead fans are to quit tomorrow, there will still be a huge demand for axes as cosplay prop. That means you have tons of foam axes to choose from.
If you want to go modern or a little more futuristic, take a look at the Tomahawk Bayonet (above right) that attaches to your airsoft rifle via Picatinny rail. In a pinch, you can hold the airsoft gun by the shoulder stock and swing--actually just softly tapping in airsoft games--it at zombies.
The long length of most foam axes are quite effective. I've been to CQB airsoft games, where a player with two medieval axes "chopped" everyone down as he ran through the field.
Nothing would complete a zombie apocalypse airsoft event without chainsaws. Yet, I hardly see anyone with one. There are tons of chainsaw props that will be fun to use (see images below).
There are different chainsaws for different genres. If you want a modern one, a Black and Decker chainsaw toy (top left) is an inexpensive prop. Or you can use one that's out of a gore horror film (top right). For a science fiction look, try the Chainsaw Bayonet (bottom), which attaches to your airsoft rifle.
If you ever join an MilSim airsoft game, you may be out in the woods for a while. You might need to navigate the forest to converge on your objective. If you are just playing a typical modern military load out, then you can use pretty much any modern compass. But if you have a fantasy or a futuristic load out, then consider some possibilities below.
Want a compass that would come out of a steampunk film, like Van Helsing? Try the Solid Brass Sun Dial and Compass (first photo). Going for a Star Trek look? The Davis Instruments Standard Hand Bearing Compass (second photo) will give you that look. But if you are going for a clean-room load out, the white Ritchie Explorer Compass Dial (third photo) gives you a load out that's closer to the Oblivion movie.
If you are looking for a fantasy airsoft facemask, you are in luck. There are tons of them, ranging from skulls to vipers to movie characters (see photo below). You can use them to intimidate the other airsoft team. Or if you are playing the zombies and skeletons in an airsoft fantasy game, they can make you look authentic.
Keep in mind that many of these facemasks have mesh eye protection. Mesh protection is not as good as impact goggles, because shattered BB's can make their way through the mesh and hurt your eyes. You should replace the mesh eye protection with airsoft goggles. You can wear goggles over the facemask or underneath the facemask.
Also, don't discount your own creativity. You can take a paintball facemask and paint it to look futuristic, fantasy, or steampunkish. The photo below shows a futuristic paintball facemask that you can buy off-the-shelf. Point is you can paint a black facemask to something similar to the example below.
While everyone else is attempting silent kills with fake tactical knife, why not pull out a Halloween butcher knife. Just think, Norman Bates slashes the throat of a decked out airsoft tactician. There are so many toy knives and knife props for Halloween that your choice is limitless. See some of the possibilities below. And many of them costs less than a rubber tactical knife.
Don't care for Halloween? They are also a number of science fiction knifes, like the Warhammer 40K inspired Chainknife Bayonet (see photo below).
Are you a G.I. Joe fan? A version of the knife used by Roadblock in G.I. Joe: Retaliation is now available for a few dollars on Amazon. The photo below, on the left, shows Roadblock holding the knife. The photo below, on the right, is the collectible version.
There are plenty of foam medieval swords on the market (see photos below), as it is an extremely popular children's toy. Nerf makes quite a few of them for Nerf battles. Wouldn't it also be cool to try fighting your way through hordes of airsoft players with a pirate scimitar. You can be Captain Jack Sparrow on the airsoft field.
Some many players wonder why you'd even consider using swords on an airsoft battlefield full of guns. I have seen them used quite successfully in an airsoft zombie game, where being touched means you turn into a zombie. A long sword, compared to tactical knife, increases your survivability. In addition, in some of these airsoft zombie games, zombie may have a longer spawning time when killed by a melee weapon vs. an airsoft gun.
SWAT uses ballistic shields in their operations. Airsoft players have airsoft versions of the anti-riot shields. Why not try a superhero shield or a medieval shield (see photos below)? It could be fun to shoot your way forward with an airsoft pistol while holding a form shield. They can keep you from being tagged by zombies, too. The toy shields are much cheaper than a fake ballstic shield as well. Just be sure to test their durability against airsoft BB's.
Of course, you can also use a real metal shield, instead of a foam shield. Then you can really see BB's bouncing in all directions. Just be careful you don't drop it on your feet.
Just searching for "watch with compass" on Amazone yields a number of intereting time pieces. They have multiple dials for various functions (see photo below). All the dials laid out in various pattern provide a steampunk sense. Any of these timepieces would give you a steampunk look that would fit into the recent Sherlock Holmes movies.
The prices of these timepieces are extraordinarily inexpensive. But you get what you pay for, because the compass on these watches do not work too well. But for steampunk cosplay, these timepieces fits the bill perfectly. Before getting onto the airsoft battlefield as a steampunk character, consider one of these timepiece jewelry to finish off your load out.
