Having successfully ordered the "Pre-Airsoftcon 470K Fan Celebration Box of Awesomeness", we are patiently awaiting for its arrival. When it does, we are going to thoroughly review the box.
This edition of the Box of Awesomeness cost $145. After tax it was about $158. Luckily, the free shipping coupon worked so there was no shipping cost. Comparing to the list of possible winnings, the price is a very good deal no matter what you win. See "The Content" section for a thorough analysis of the winnings.
The Box of Awesomeness (BOA) is depicted on Evike's web site as a shinning metal box shown in Evike's photo below.
Evike's web page says, 'The "Box of Awesomeness" will ship in a large UPS approved shipping box; not the chrome silver gift box shown in image for visual effect.' And, sure enough, we find a big cardboard box outside our door.
Right after ordering the Box of Awesomeness, I analyzed the possible winning in the Purchasing Evike's Box of Awesomeness. I've also re-ordered the list based on what I wanted the most versus what I wanted the least. In this section, we will look at what we actually got and see how that compares with our desires.
I'm one of the 50 winners for the APS ASR107 M4 URX Raptor (see photo below). It's a really good gun. I know, because I have one just like it... the APS ASR106 Mini Patriot M4. The APS ASR106 Mini Patriot M4 is my current primary airsoft weapon, which speaks for my confidence in this gun. The APS ASR107 M4 URX Raptor is newer and contains the same awesome technology and more. It's full metal (except the shoulder stock and handgrip), quick change spring gearbox, very sturdy quad floating rail, and metal one-piece hopup. Read my in-depth "APS ASR107 M4 URX Raptor Review".
Sadly, this is the package I wanted the least. Not because the gun is no good. No, the gun is excellent. But, like I said, I already have one just like it. I don't need another one. Plus, I already feel that there are "Too Many M4's on the Airsoft Battlefield. I would have rather win the "Airsoft Better & Airsoft Right" Package 1 or Package 2, which there are 200 possible winners out of 269 boxes. Out of 269 boxes, there was only 50 winners for the APS ASR107 M4 URX Raptor. What was the odd of me getting exactly what I least wanted?
The gun seems new. But the box was missing the instruction manual, the cardboards that keeps the gun in place. All the accessories--high-cap magazine and metal black muzzle tip--are out of its accessory box. So it may be a return or a display gun. Nevertheless, it's a good quality rifle and it works fine. I will build this in the DMR that I've always wanted to build. It will serve its purpose in airsoft battles.
Five more non-thrilling items in the "Box of Awesomeness". A high-cap magazine holds something like 360 rounds. Why would you need five 360 round magazines!? I have in fact gone MilSim with real cap magazines. These five high-capacity magazines are useless to me. If only Evike had included mid-cap magazines, instead.
Nevertheless, if you are into high-cap magazine--first of all, let me know why you would need more than one high-cap magazine--you may be interest in my review of this magazine and its disassembly: Asia Electronic Guns M4 M16 High Cap Magazine Review.
Evike mentioned that I was guaranteed to get a bag of coffee. Imagine my face when I got the items that I wanted the least and then find a bag of coffee missing from the box. But it turned out that it wasn't an omission as shown in photo below.
I was much happier after finding a raincheck for the coffee at a later date. But I just have a piece of paper for now.
Two items that have at least a little bit of thrill factor (see photo below). The Evike Spork is obviously a novelty item. And it's one that my kids with fight over. Luckily there is a M16 pen to settle the dispute. I'm sure my daughter will love the spork and my son will love the M16 pen. Looking forward to letting them play with them.
The only thing I really wanted to win from this batch of goodies is the Gangnam Style patch. But, nope, I didn't win that either.
I basically paid ~$160 for a high quality rifle and a bunch of other bonus items. The quality rifle retailed $250 on Evike. And if its older sibling's final street price ($190) was any indication, then this package was a great deal. Especially if I was new to airsoft or didn't already have an M4 airsoft gun. Unluckily for me, I already had basically the same gun (one of my favorite guns).
Luckily for me, though I was going to build an Airsoft Mk 12 Special Purpose Rifle. The APS ASR107 M4 URX Raptor will serve this purpose. And it's quick change APS gearbox will be really useful for that purpose.
All in all, it is a win for me. However, I have gone into this deal with that no-loss expectation in mind. I am just disappointed that, out of less than 20% (50/269) odds, I would come out with the least desirable outcome.
