Code Red Airsoft Park's AZTEC Zombie Apocalypse event got my blood boiling. Hunting zombies, or more like running from them, sounds quite thrilling. Code Red Airsoft Park has a "no rifle" rule for zombie nights. And going with a simple airsoft pistol seems so boring. No, for a spectacular zombie event, you need a weapon of monstrosity. Something like this...
Yah! Something like that is not only monstrous, but functional at the same time. It's perfect for hunting zombies and other creatures of the night. In this article, we will explain how we built this contraption for the AZTEC Zombie Apocalypse.
Before we can build a monstrous weapon, we need a Picatinny weaver quad-rail for a pistol. We choose the Airsoft Gun Pistol Rail Top Bottom Set (see photo below).
Sadly, out of all the airsoft pistols we have, this quad rail only fits the KWC Sig Sauer SP2022 airsoft pistol. So that's the pistol we are going to use. It's not a scifi airsoft gun. If you want this monstrosity to be more futuristic, check out our scifi version at the bottom of this article.
We took the Night Detective Quest 5 (ND-Q5) Night Vision Monocular that is mounted on a offset 1" riser (see photo below) from our sniper rifle. This will serve as our night vision scope. After all, who'd want to hunt zombies during the day?
We could, obviously, get a night vision scope. But that's $500+. And the sheer size of the Night Detective Quest 5 (ND-Q5) automatically give the contraption the monstrosity look. Being functional is a real bonus and a necessity.
The Night Detective Quest 5 (ND-Q5) Night Vision Monocular is quite heavy as holding the pistol up is not already heavy enough. But hey, how can it be monstrous if it is light? No problem, a foregrip will help us bear this zombie hunting weapon.
We took the foregrip from our Robocop airsoft pistol. But you can get an equivalent one from any airsoft shop. The foregrip even made the zombie hunting pistol even more of a monstrosity. And it is functional, too!
We used the Gamo 650NM Red Laser Sight. We mounted it to the right side of the quad rail (see photo below).
This sight was low on battery. We had been too lazy to change it. So we can barely see the red dot with our naked eyes just a few feet away. Past that, you can't see it at all. But guess what? It shows brightly in the night vision monocular, even past 60 feet. The low-battery laser turns the night vision monocular into a red dot sight! Actually, a green dot sight, because everything is green when viewed through the night vision monocular.
We could mount a flashlight to the left side of the quad rail. That is in fact why we mount the laser to the right side. But we didn't have an extra flashlight handy. And maybe it will conflict with the night vision monocular, making the entire scene very bright. And, of course, you will give your position away to the zombies.
Nevertheless, there will be times when you do need a flash light. Therefore, in the future, we plan to add a small, but bright flashlight. When we do, we'll update this article. In the mean time, feel free to add your favorite flashlight to this ultimate zombie killer.
Even though we just built something monstrous and cool, none of the items in this build comes out of the science fiction world. You can actually get the real Sig Sauer SP2022 and build this contraption out of the functional items in this article. So if you insist on something truly futuristic, use the Combat Zone Enforcer and the Umarex XBG Carbine Conversion Kit (see photo below).
The Combat Zone Enforcer is a scifi pistol (non-existent firearm), but it doesn't fit into the quad-rail from earlier sections. Therefore, we have to use the Umarex XBG Carbine Conversion Kit to host this contraption. It isn't quite a monstrosity compared to the SP2022 version, but is quite futuristic and functional.
