The BTC Tactical 2.5-10x40 Rifle Scope is almost like a Swiss Army knife. It has a 10x scope that can be used for sniping. It has a 2.5x scope that is useful for close range. And an integrated laser that can substitute for a 1x red dot sight. In this article, we are going to experiment and test this scope for airsoft purposes.
The BTC Tactical 2.5-10x40 Rifle Scope comes in a fashionable and sturdy cardboard box (see photo below). The design is intriguing. And the bux is sturdy enough for re-use.
Inside the box, you'll find the scope with laser, transparent protective cover for both side of the scope, hex wrench, cleaning cloth, a spare scope battery, two spare laser batteries, and instruction sheet. Photo below shows the content.
There are many 3x-10x scopes on the market. 3x magnifiers are also popular accessories for red dot sights. What makes the BTC Tactical 2.5-10x40 Rifle Scope special is the extra 0.5x at the wider side and the 40mm objective lens.
A 10x magnification is great for real rifles. But anything over 4x is too much for airsoft. 3x is about right. With a 2.5x, you can use it for medium distance engagement. But for airsoft, you can use the 10x to practice trigger discipline. With higher magnification, you can quickly see any shifts due to gun movement. The photo below shows the zoom control.
At about 6X, the depth-of-field is so narrow that you have to use the diopter (the knob with the "+ 0 -" symbol) to adjust focus on the target. Otherwise, the scene becomes blurry.
The elevation adjustment for the scope is under the top cap (see photo below). It's operation is very similar to 1x red dot sights. But unlike my other red dot sights where rotating the knob moves the target to the red dot, moving this elevation adjustment moves the crosshair to the target.
The elevation adjustment cap also has distance markings. You can rotate it to adjust for bullet drop, similar to sniper scopes. Each marking is 100 feet. It's not too useful for airsoft, as the maximum range is around 300 feet. By 200 feet, the BB pellets lost enough energies to be accurate. So it's best to leave this setting at the 100 feet mark.
The windage adjustment is to the right of the scope. Unlike other scope where the elevation adjustment knob is the same as the windage adjustment knob, the BTC Tactical 2.5-10x40 Rifle Scope has a completely different knob for windage adjustment (see photo below).
The BTC Tactical 2.5-10x40 Rifle Scope comes with transparent protectors for both the front and the rear lens. That is perfect airsoft as BB will break scope lenses. The lenses will sit horizontally, but that blocks the laser. Therefore, it's best to rotate them to the 45 degrees angle (see photo below).
The scope provides red or green illumination (see "Controls" section below). To power the illumination, it uses a CR2032 lithium battery under the control knob (see photo below). This battery is standard for most red dot sights.
The red laser is a standard run-of-the-mill lazer-in-a-tube. It seems very similar to stand-alone lasers, except this one is integrated into the scope housing. But the laser is very nice. It has both elevation and windage adjustments (see photo below).
You can unscrew the toggle button to reveal the battery compartment (see photo below). The laser uses two AG13 batteries, which is fairly standard for lasers.

In the photo above, you'll also see that the rifle scope has an ten position knob. Two of the positions are off. The other positions are assigned 1 to 4. There are two sets of 1 to 4. One set for red light and one set for green light. While the knob is in the off position, you will see a black crosshair (see photo below).
When I purchased the BTC Tactical 2.5-10x40 Rifle Scope, I was hoping that the scope will act as a red/green dot scope. But strangely, instead of giving you a red or green dot, it lights up the crosshair completely (see photos below).
In a way, it still serves the same purpose as a red/green dot sight at night. The problem is that unlike a dot, which is already too bright for many nights, lighting up the entire crosshair and the rim of the scope means you aren't going to see any dark targets.
So far, I haven't found a good use for the red/green light setting at night. If you have any ideas, let us know.
The Picatinny mount has two thumbscrews, which is very convenient as you don't need any tools to mount or unmount the scope. The bracket are full length (see photo below) to provide a very sturdy and assuring attachment to your rifle.
