The AimSports MP5 HK Style Claw Scope Mount is a Picatinny weaver rail for the Heckler & Koch MP5 submachine gun. The standard MP5 does not come with a top rail, because it is invented long before the Picatinny weaver rail is ever conceived. With the AimSports MP5 HK Style Claw Scope Mount, you can put a top rail on your MP5. In this article, we review the AimSports MP5 HK Style Claw Scope Mount with our JP M5-S6 MP5 airsoft replica.
The AimSports MP5 HK Style Claw Scope Mount comes in a transparent plastic package (see photo below). The package is fully sealed, so you'll have to cut through the package to remove the mount. The package design is very good and quite pleasing to look at.
The following photo shows the parts included in the package. It only include the top rail mount and the hex wrench. The top rail mount has a smooth matte finish.
The AimSports MP5 HK Style Claw Scope Mount has a small notch in it (see photo below), forcing you to mount it one way on your MP5. For some reason, the slot is either too shallow for the MP5 or the JG M5-S6 has a taller mold, preventing the rail to be attached properly.
Luckily, the JG M5-S6 has a ABS plastic receiver. So cutting off the plastic mold allows the top rail to properly seat. The photo below shows the plastic mold has been cut off.
The following photo shows the left side of the MP5 with the top rail mounted. Because the rail can only be installed in one direction, the hex nut will always be on the left side of the gun.
The following photo shows the right side of the MP5 with the top rail mounted.
Overall, I like the AimSports MP5 HK Style Claw Scope Mount. But I am disappointed that I have to modify the airsoft gun in order for this mount to fit properly. I have to wonder how this rail would fit on a full metal airsoft gun. In fact, how would this rail fit on a real MP5 firearm?
