Today, I had the opportunity to stop by the Evike Super Store in Alhambra, California. It happens to be the Labor Day weekend and Evike Labor Day sale was in full swing. It was also the first time I visited Evike in person.
The Evike Super Store is a huge warehouse the largest airsoft showroom I have ever seen. It almost represent its web site one to one. For example, the Evike Custom "Optic Thunder" M4 Airsoft AEG Rifle that lists for $10,000 on its web site is in the middle of the showcase in its lobby.
Other collectable guns like the Mass Effect pistols and rifles line the hallway showcases before entering the showroom. My toddlers are thrilled with the pink Hello Kitty AK47 on display. They proceeds to point out every other pink gun they see.
The showroom is two story tall, filled with guns, accessories, and parts. It seems that there is at least one of everything in the showroom. It even contains items that is not available on the web site. It's like a museum of airsoft weapons.
Inside the showroom is an enclosed shooting range. It seems that you can bring any airsoft gun in (using a gun bag, of course) and test your gun at the range. Numerous cafeteria style tables lay about, so you can adjust your gun on the spot and try it at its shooting range.
Unlike other retails, where you pick up the items you want to purchase and take it to the cashier, at the Evike Super Store, you "order" the items. That's right, there are about 7 to 8 computers in front of the purchase desk. They are linked to the Evike web site. You search and add the items to our shopping cart. When you are ready to check out, you print the shopping cart. Then you wait in line to "claim" your print out. Once you claimed your print out, you wait for them to put your order together and call your name.
I "ordered" five M4 magazines, two speed loaders, an sight shield, an 8.4v battery, and a 9.6v battery. It took about 5 to 10 minutes for them to put my order together. And I was able to use the Labor Day 20% off coupon on the order. Do check the items though, because it's a little chaotic and they forgot to grab the 9.6v battery from stock. Luckily I checked the items and they immediately corrected the problem.
In hindsight, you can do the same thing at home (put everything in the shopping cart and print it out). As soon as you get there, hand them your "order". It think this process is neat and refreshing if you know exactly what you want.
Overall, shopping at the Evike Super Store is a fun experience. It certainly beats ordering online and waiting for your items if you are in the area.
