As we get closer to the Operation: Imperative Action 2015-03-14, which is a night operation, I am becoming more and more obsessed with understanding how the human eyes adjust to the night. I have found some articles that provides good insight:
1) The "Biological night vision" section in the Wikipedia Night vison page.
2) Night Vision: The Red Myth.
3) The "Use of red lights" section in the Wikipedia Purkinje effect page.
Good news is that "most of the night vision adaptation occurs within the first five minutes in the dark", while the rest of the night vision adaptation takes another 40 minutes.
Use of red light can help preserve night vision.
