Tac City is a franchise of two indoor close-quarter battle (CQB) airsoft arena. One of the field is located in Irwindale, CA. The other field is located in Fullerton, CA. We have a chance to play at their new Irwindale location last night. This facility just opened three weeks ago, after moving from their original location in El Monte, CA.
Unlike other airsoft fields in the Los Angeles area, Tac city is open to the public (you don't have to set up private parties) seven days a week (closed on Monday). On weekdays, it is open to all at night (5PM to 11PM). On weekends, it is open during the day and night (1PM to 11PM).
Some nights, Tac City runs special games, like pistol and shotgun nights, etc. Tac City is extremely affordable on some week nights if you have a friend. On those weeknights, you can get in with $20 for two players, bringing the cost down to $10 per person. Weekend is $20, which is closer to market price, but still cheaper than many other fields. Be sure to check out its calendar on its web site before driving over.
The actual field is quite big. I estimate it to be 150 feet long and 70 feet wide. That means your gun should be sighted for outdoor play. Or if your gun is already sighted for an outdoor airsoft field, then you are covered.
The actual facility is huge. It turns out Tac City is part of Airsplat, so when you show up at Tac City, you also get to visit the Airsplat retail store. The entire warehouse contains the Airsplat inventory, the retail store, two restrooms, the airsoft field, and a staging area. A viewing area above the field allows spectators. The two restrooms are shared by both sexes and are always kept clean. The staging area is filled with picnic tables andAC outlet at every picnic table along the wall.
The indoor airsoft field is filled with random bunkers composed of walls, barrels, boxes, camouflage mesh, and various other things. The wall are all various in height. Most of the random objects are place in rows, so that field does not resemble real life environment. it almost have a symmetrical feel to it. Unlike other outdoor fields where the referee stands next to the field, Tac City has a referee tower in the center of the map that overlooks the entire field. We thought that is a great idea.
The referees adhered to the rules strictly. All guns were chrono'ed at their chrono station. Both rifles and pistols were chrono'ed. All guns were limited to 350 FPS with no exceptions. My friend brought a 365 FPS SCAR and was turned away from using it. The games seems to be limited to force-on-force with no respawn. Although I enjoyed no respawn, force-on-force seems kind of bland. We had a medic game, but only after one of the frequent players requested it.
With the full AirSplat retail store on site. It allows you to pick up gears if you lack any equipment. There is no worries that you are left out in the code if your gears broke or you forgot to bring something. They have several used rentals guns at a very low price ($30) as well.
Overall, Tac City is a fun and exciting field with a well ran facility. It is also extremely close for the Los Angeles residents. It is indoor so that it will never get rained out. It's pleasant environment keeps us going back.
