Insight Interactive is an indoor close-quarter battle (CQB) airsoft arena. Located in Rancho Cucamonga, CA, it is the only indoor airsoft arena in the Inland Empire as of this writing. After playing there three nights, I feel I am familiar with it enough to write about the field.
Unlike other airsoft fields in the Los Angeles area, Insight Interactive is open to the public (you don't have to set up private parties) six days a week (closed on Monday). On weekdays, it is open to all at night. On weekends, it is open during the day and night (two sessions). You can still set up private games during the afternoon when it is not open to public games.
Some nights, Insight Interactive runs special games, like pistol and shotgun nights. Every month it has a swap meet, where you can bring your equipment for sale or shop for used equipment. Seems like a great idea, because it is easier than buy/sell via Craig's List. Be sure to check out its calendar on its web site before driving over.
Insight Interactive is extremely affordable on week nights if you have a friend. You can get in with $20 for two players, bringing the cost down to $10 per person. Weekend is $20, which is closer to market price, but still cheaper than many other fields.
The actual facility is about 15000 square feet, which is about two 7500 square feet residential lots (if you compare to real estate) combined. It contains the airsoft field, a staging area, a store, a lobby, and two restrooms. The two restrooms are shared by both sexes and are always kept clean. The staging area is filled with picnic tables, free lockers (bring your own lock), a TV, a rental station, and two vending machines.
The indoor airsoft field is filled with tiny buildings. Because the props are built like building exteriors, it gives you a slight feeling that you are outdoors, especially during a light out game. The scene closely resembles a small town in shamble. Unlike other fields where the referee stands next to the field, Insight Interactive has a referee tower that overlooks the entire field. We thought that is a great idea.
The first two times we went to the field, it was the same. So we memorized it by heart and figured out the best way to assault. However, the third time we went, the field was completely changed up. Apparently the structures are all moveable. We were glad the field is so dynamic, it allowed us to train for many different situations at one field.
David, the referee, was very clear with the instructions. He also creatively set up different scenarios and distinct objectives. It keeps the teams on their toes and forces motion, rather than the static camping game caused by force-on-force scenario if used too frequently. There are also a few other referees that takes David's place when he is around. All of them has been professional and courteous.
Insight Interactive has a small on sight store. It allows you to pick up gears if you lack any equipment. Usually have only one of each type of item in inventory, so if someone buys an item earlier, then you are out of luck. They have several used guns at a reasonable price. But the selection is much smaller than a retail store.
Overall, Insight Interactive is a fun and exciting field with a well ran facility. It is also extremely close to Inland Empire residents. It is indoor so that it will never get rained out. It's pleasant environment kept us going back. It is now our primary field to attend.
