We Need More Realistic Airsoft Shotguns

I don't get it. Today, we have numerous airsoft shotguns on the market. But most of them shoots one to three pellets. I think there is one airsoft shotgun that shoots five pellets. But if you look at real shotguns, they shoot, on average, 12 to 18 metal BB's or slugs. How come we don't have airsoft shotguns that are equivalent to real shotguns in that regards?

Currently, the best way to emulate a real shotgun in airsoft is to use a standard-alone or underbarrel grenade launcher. Grenade launcher, you ask? That's right. The grenade launchers uses 40mm grenade shells. They are filled with airsoft BB's (up to 80 pellets). When you fire the grenade launcher, the 40mm grenade shell doesn't actually launch. Instead, it triggers the gas inside the grenade shell and launches the airsoft BB's. Therefore, you can fill an 40mm grenade shell with, say, 12 BB's to act as shotgun shells.

But 40mm grenade shell is a lot bigger than a shotgun shell. Why can't airsoft manufacturers use this technique in an airsoft shotgun? When I say "technique", I mean allow you to fill 12 BB's in a shotgun shell, maybe let you charge it with gas, and launch all 12 BB's in a shotgun? Doesn't seem all that hard to me.

I have my fingers crossed that a manufacturer will read this blog post and release an airsoft shotgun just like it. In the mean time, I'm going to contemplate using an grenade launcher as a shotgun.

Looks like our request has been answered by the APS CAM870 airsoft shotgun. This shotgun fires realistic shotshells. And guess what? It fires 12 BBs at once, just what we've asked for.

In addition, there is now the Airsoft3D Helio M726 Underbarrel Shotgun. This is a futuristic underbarrel shotgun that fires like a real shotgun. That is because it also uses CAM870 airsoft shotgun shells.

We are very fortunate that now you can get realistic shooting, airsoft shotguns. The future looks bright as wait for more realistic airsoft shotguns to flood the market.
