Inexpensive Night Vision for Airsoft and Paintball

Sony camcorders comes with night vision capability. If you already have a small, old, Sony camcorder, then you are ready to go for night games. The Sony camcorder also has inferred illumination that you can turn on and off. Its recording feature is a double plus for recording your battles.

So I am curious if anyone have ever brought a Sony camcorder to an airsoft or paintball event.

Another possibility is to use the night vision spy gears available at toy stores. These things are basically camcorders without recording capabilities. They also have IR illumination. They cost between $50 to $100. The Call of Duty night vision goggle that comes in a special edition is a good example of these functional spy toys.

Some folks have said that they work well in airsoft and paintball, but there are no real details on what those folks mean by "work well."

Has anyone tried either of these technology in airsoft and/or paintball?

My friend and I were discussing cheap night vision for airsoft yesterday. He pointed me to car DVR (digital video recorder). Many of these unit has night vision capability with built in IR illuminating LED's. They have a small screen for you to survey the field. They are generally small enough for you to build to your airsoft gun. They go for around $15 to $40, depending on the model. Here are two examples on Amazon:

My friend's idea is to turn these unit on when you want to look around the field for friends or foe. Then turn it off in between.
