Giving the Pistol Hex-Rail a SciFi Look!

Every few months, Code Red Airsoft Park puts on a zombies apocalypse event. And, of course, they put on an even this past Halloween, called "ZA-4 Zombie Assimilation". You can read more about it in our After Action Report.

Code Red zombie events are always pistols and shotguns only. And because zombies airsoft scenarios are science fiction based, so we normally don't take it seriously with our full on MilSim loadout (unless it's military zombie scenario). However, we still simulate it by giving it a real-life overtone--civilian or military personnel on vacation, etc. So I wanted a science fiction like weapon loadout. That means a gas blowback (GBB) pistol, which looks like it's from the future era. But it still needs to be practical and functional.

So I ordered the Pistol Hex-Rail, in white...

First of all, I pick white, because even without painting, white is generally associated to the future. That is because we have learned to associate future dystopian society to a white clean-room environment. Just searching for "future gun" on Google Image reveals a number of science fiction weapons in white.

But I had a week before the event, so I can be more creative with its paint scheme. I imagined the six rails on the frame to stand out from the rest. So I covered the rails in Glowing Cerise Fluorescent spray paint (see photo below). As you can see, it already feels like it's lit from within.

To make the rail really stand out from the frame, I am going to cover the frame in Equipment Gray. This color has long been associated to the "future" as well. Because when personally computers (PC) first became popular, 90% of them are beige or gray, hence the name "Equipment Gray". Even today, people are paranoid that computers--artificial intelligence (AI)--may take over the world in the future.

The Rust-Oleum Professional Primer "Equipment Gray" (see photo below) turned out to be an excellent spray paint for this job. Although it's marketed for automotive repair, it sprayed onto the 3D printed plastic uniformly in one coat.

I masked the fluorescent rails with masking tape. Then I applied the gray spray paint. The result is shown in the photo below.

The Equipment Gray contrasted well with the Glowing Cerise. It makes the rails look like they're glowing when lights bounces off the paint. The rail serves well as greeble for an, otherwise, flat surface.

Now it's time for some gun porn...

The following photo shows the left side of Pistol Hex-Rail installed on the P226 with all the accessories attached.

In the photo above, you see the following accessories: hand grip, laser sight, tactical flashlight, and red dot sight.

The following photo shows the right side, which reveals two unused rails. The fluorescent lamp kind of washed out the fluorescent paint.

These two extra rails can be used for video cameras and infrared torch to light up the cam. I have planned on using the Contour cam, but the infrared torch have not arrived in time.

Nevertheless, I have gotten a lot of "wows" and "what the hell is that?" expressions at the zombies event. It was a lot of fun to carrying a pistol that looks out of this world. And its set-up serves as a compact SMG that is fully, tactically functional on the zombie horde.
