In airsoft and paintball, goggles and facemasks are required for personal safety. But while preparing for a large woodland airsoft battle, I have realized that the typical run-of-the-mill binoculars will not work, because they need to rest up against your eyes in order to provide proper focus. The goggles and facemasks will prevent proper focus on your eyes.
So what are solutions to this problem? I came up with two possible solutions, but I would like to hear yours as well.
Solution 1: Get a long eye relief scope to use as a monocular. My facemask requires about 1" clearance. I have scopes that have 6" to 8" eye relief.
Solution 2: Bring a camcorder that has a long optical zoom. Camcorders generally have 10x to 20x zoom, which is great for this purpose. It is even better if the camcorder is small, so that you can stuff it in a molle pouch. And if it is an old camcorder that you don't mind it getting shot up, even better. Plus, you can even use it to record your battles.
I have several weeks to prepare for this airsoft event. Look forward to hearing your suggestions.
