The Helio M726 is practically the first under-barrel airsoft shotgun on the market that fires realistic airsoft shotshells. In this article, we are going to do some performance comparison between the Helio M726 and existing airsoft shotguns and airsoft grenade launchers.
So far, there is no other underbarrel airsoft shotguns on the market. Even if you can jury-rig an airsoft shotgun to mount underbarrel, you still have to suffer the weight and size penalty of a full-size airsoft shotgun. Maneuver is going to be difficult, while your airsoft shotgun barrel will transpose in any indoor CQB situation (where shotgun breach is needed the most).
On the other hand, the Helio M726 is designed to mount underbarrel to any airsoft gun with Picatinny rail or Weaver rail. Its compact and lightweight design means you don't have to change your playing style for any airsoft field.
Firing wise, the Helio M726 wins hands down. On a modern day shotgun, the utilization sequence is pump, fire, and reload. On the Helio M726, the sequence is fire and reload. That is 33% efficiency gain over a traditional shotgun.
Because there is no under-barrel airsoft shotguns on the market, many airsoft players use under-barrel airsoft grenade launchers as shotguns. The airsoft grenade shell shoots multiple BB's, very similar to a real shotgun. With this regard, the only difference between an airsoft grenade launcher and the Helio M726 is that the grenade shell can shoot between 26 and 120 BB's vs. 12 BB's that the Helio M726 fires.
But the M203 grenade launcher is far bigger than the Helio M726. In fact, the grenade shell is many times the size of a shotgun shell. To carry ten grenade shells, you'd need a bandolier around your chest, while you can carry ten shotgun shells in a pouch.
That raises the question, do you really need to shoot 120 BB's in a CQB breach operation (where shotgun is king)? Do you need to suffer the weight penalty on ten grenade shells where ten or twenty 12-round shotgun shells will do? From the perspective, the Helio M726 wins hands down.
