My friend bought the DBoys M4 CQB-R from Airsoft GI. It's a full metal M4 replica and works reliably. Out of the box, it provides an impressive performance. It chrono'ed at 401 FPS. But for a CQB rifle, it's a little too much, because most indoor CQB airsoft arenas have a FPS limit of 350 - 365. So he has a problem.
Spring rate in the AEG gearbox changes the velocity of the gun. He decided to purchase the Lancer Tactical AEG Spring M110 from Airsoft GI the moment he ordered the gun. This spring is rated at 340 to 370 FPS. He's counting on replacing the spring with this one will bring the gun down to the 350 FPS range for CQB. And this option will allow him to put the original spring back to get 400 FPS for outdoor battles.
His strategy paid off. After replacing the spring, his DBoys M4 CQB-R chrono'ed at 365 FPS. That was the extreme limit of the indoor field we wanted to play at. He found the stock spring to be short than the Lancer Tactical AEG Spring M110, but it didn't create any problems as a replacement. The Lancer Tactical AEG Spring M110 is "made of German piano wire, which is less likely to weaken over time over traditional steel springs".
