Last night, I was playing indoor CQB out at TacCity's new Irwindale airsoft field. In the middle of a game, my APS Mini Patriot M4 started making a weird scratchy sound when it fires. No BB's came out.
After I got home, I examined the airsoft electronic gun (AEG). With the magazine out, I fired the gun. Funny thing it didn't make a scratchy sound. But I noticed that air is coming out of the mag well, but not the front barrel. I disassembled the gun and removed the inner barrel. The bucking was stuck in the hop-up had disintegrated; missing lots of rubber.
A BB was stuck in the barrel. No amount of blowing would eject the BB. After removing the BB with an unjamming rod, I tried other BB's and they all get jammed. Cleaning the inner barrel out with rubbing alcohol did the trick of fixing the jams.
Lesson learned: If the gun make scratchy sound, remove the magazine to see if the sound changes. If it does, then it's probably an airflow problem. Next, check if air is coming out of the front barrel or the magazine well. If it is coming out of the magazine well, there is a jam in the inner barrel.
