Traditionally, to determine how hard a spring shoots, you'd have to take apart an airsoft rifle, remove the gearbox, disassembly the gearbox, swap the spring. Then you have to reverse that entire process and put the entire gun back together again before you can fire it through a chrono.
After experienced that ordeal before, I think the APS UAR should be in every airsoft tech's toolbox. It's a great tool to test and determine the spring rate of the springs in your collection. That is thanks to the APS Hybrid Quick Spring Change gearbox that comes with every APS rifle. And thanks to the version 3 APS Hybrid gearbox that is installed in the shoulder stock of the APS UAR (see photo below).
With this combination in the APS UAR, you can easily install an unknown spring into the UAR, fire BB's into the chronograph, and determine the spring rate. It's very useful when you upgrade other airsoft guns, because it simplifies the process of finding the correct upgrade spring. You can also use it to test if a spring has settled over time.
Many airsoft rifles do not provide spring rate specifications for the springs that come with the guns. After swapping out many of them with upgrade springs, I have quite a few mystery springs. Now that I have a APS UAR, I have easily categorized them into different spring rates.
