Helio M726 Underbarrel Shotgun Will Use CAM870 or Goblin Shotshells

When we originally envisioned a futuristic underbarrel shotgun, we wanted realistic firing characteristics. Therefore, when we learned that the new APS CAM870 shotshell (see photo below) being able to fire 12 airsoft BB's, using CO2, all by itself, we immediately went to work and designed the Helio M726 Underbarrel Shotshell from scratch.

This week, we learned that the Goblin shotshell (see photo below) can also fire 12 airsoft BBs. It is also self-propelled, using green gas. In addition, it has the ability to fire a paintball as well, with the correct hull.

Therefore, we are going to design a version of the Helio M726 Underbarrel Shotgun (see 3D model below) for the Goblin shotshell as well. So we ordered a set of the Goblin shotshells today with both airsoft and paintball hulls.

We believe in providing choices to the airsoft community. Players may choose either version based on their gas type preference. Airsoft players who already owns the APS CAM870 airsoft shotgun can choose the CAM870 version of the Helio M726 underbarrel shotgun to compliment their loadout. Paintball and airsoft players who already owns the Goblin Solo or Deuce can choose the Goblin version of the Helio M726.

The Helio M726 Underbarrel Shotgun is going to be the game changer on the battlefield, because you can mount an inexpensive underbarrel shotgun to any airsoft rifle or paintball marker. It attaches via Picatinny rail, which is easily available on airsoft guns and paintball markers. Mounted on your airsoft gun or marker, it is ready for action when you are.

We just received our shipment of the Goblin Cartridge Set (airsoft) and the Goblin Barrel Sizer Set (paintball). We were so excited, we took a photo of them in the UPS parking lot (see photo below).

We are getting right to work on designing the Helio M726 Underbarrel Shotgun to operate with shotshells. The Goblin shotshells are about a millimeter larger than the CAM870 shotshells. And the rear lip flange is also much larger. So we wont't be able to design one Helio M726 to work with both shotshells. Instead, there will be two versions of the Helio M726.

We have completed the design for the Helio M726-G Underbarrel Shotgun, which uses the Goblin Solo/Deuce airsoft shotgun shells. See our model below. The prototype is being printed at this time.

We have received our Helio M726-G prototype today. The Goblin shotshell is a tight fit in the barrel, but it does work. We will enlarge the barrel diameter slightly. Mechanically, the Helio M726-G works great. It latches the Goblin shotshell in perfectly. It fires the shotshell just fine. The Picatinny mount works. Once we update the design, it will be ready for production.

Take a look at our prototype below. The Goblin airsoft shotshell is inserted with airsoft BBs.

We test fired our Helio M726-G prototype. It worked great with propane in the Goblin Solo/Deuce airsoft shotshell. There was no problem whatsoever. But when we tried CO2, the heavy recoil blew off the hook latch and the trigger button. We are going to have to strengthen the current design.

We have strengthened the Helio M726-G. The design is with the printing service right now. In the meantime, I have attempted to salvage the failed prototype. I have glued a tiny nail onto the trigger mechanism (see photo below). The Loctite Stik 'n Seal seems best for this purpose. I have tested it with CO2 and it works!

We have finalized our latch design for the Helio M726-G. It's far more robust than the last few iterations we have (see model below). We will update the 3D model on Sculpteo and Shapeways shortly.

The beauty of 3D printing is that the customer always gets the latest design. There is no need to get rid of old stock before putting the newer design on the shelf. Our customer get the latest and greatest technology as they come out of the design stage.
